This month the Illinois Valley Food Pantry is working on “Hunger Awareness”, and is looking for food and monetary donations. Different ideas for donating: donate a grocery gift card, give up a daily treat then donate the money, save change for a week and donate money, or donate money instead of birthday or Christmas exchanges, or “In Memory Of” or “In Honor of” someone. PRINCETON - PMH Begins Tree of Lights Annual Campaign
The Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Tree of Lights Committee kicked off its annual campaign at the Auxiliary Candy Cane event earlier this month This year, donations to the Tree of Lights will be used to purchase a Reagent refrigerator for Microbiology in the Laboratory. The Tree of Lights is a special tree located on the north side of the hospital. A donation of $10 will light one light on the Tree of Lights and a donation of $100 will light a special light on the star. When a donation of $20 or more is given, an acknowledgement card will be sent to the person or family the donation is honoring. A tax deductible receipt will also be sent when requested. OTTAWA - Bluegrass Jams at Christ Episcopal Church
The first Friday of each month from October until February, the Christ Episcopal Church at 113 E. Lafayette St. in Ottawa, will be hosting a Bluegrass Jams night. LA SALLE - Free ITAC Amplified Phones
Free amplified phones are available through the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation program (ITAC).Qualified individuals must be legal residents of Illinois, have a doctor’s or audiologist’s signature verifying hearing loss, and have standard phone service in the residence.There are no age or income restrictions. Walk-ins welcome but, appointments are preferred. MENDOTA - Free carriage rides
Looking for something fun to do this holiday season? Come out and enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride to see the Christmas lights in Mendota! Rides will be on Friday, Dec. 20th, Sunday, Dec. 22nd and Monday, Dec. 23rd from 4:30 until 8 p.m. Rides will begin and end on Main Street. ODELL - Annual Homemade Candy and Cookie Sale
The St. Paul Schools Booster's Club will be holding their Annual Homemade Candy and Cookie Sale at the Bank of Odell on Friday December 20th and Saturday December 21st. On Friday the sale will go from 8am until 5pm, and Saturday it will go from 8am until Noon. Cookies will be sold for $4 per dozen and candy will be $6 per pound. LA SALLE - Illinois Valley Food Pantry Donations/Christmas Distribution
The I.V. Food Pantry’s Christmas Distribution will be held at the pantry on Saturday, Dec. 21st between 10am and 3pm. To be eligible for a food order, you must be registered with the food pantry. The sign up deadline is Wed., Dec. 18th. If you wish to donate, suggestions for donations are: 4lb. Ham, Instant Potatoes, Boxed Stuffing Mix, Green Beans, Small Can of Fruit, Cake Mix and Canned Frosting, Jell-O. Cash donations or food may be brought to the pantry located at 136 Marquette St., LaSalle during working hours. Mon., Tues., Thurs., or Fri., 9am until noon, Wed. 11am until 6pm. SENECA - A Jimmy Buffett Themed Trivia Night
On Saturday January 25th the Waltham Elementary School will be hosting a Jimmy Buffett Themed Trivia Night, beginning at 5:30pm at Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Club. The cost for trivia is $10 per person, and everyone must be in a team of 6-10 players. Guests can dress in their favorite Jimmy Buffett attire, there will be 50/50 raffles (which include a 50" TV, surface tablet and iPad Mini), a silent auction, a booze raffle, food concessions and a cash bar. MENDOTA - Annual dinner auction to feature dueling pianos
Holy Cross School will host its annual dinner auction on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Mendota Civic Center. This year, the event will also feaure 176 Keys Dueling Pianos, a request-driven mega-interactive event. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are available now at Holy Cross School, the Rectory or by calling 538-6151. Tickets are $30 for individual. Other table sponsorship opportunities are available.
LA SALLE/PERU - Transition Fair
The Illinois Valley Transition Planning Committee will be having a Transition Fair on January 10th in the LP High School New Cafeteria and Gym from 6pm – 8:30pm. It is titled “Get Your Dream On - Dancing for Fun & Health” and is for “Promoting Healthy Dreams”. This is for Youth aged 13-21, who have a disability or an IEP, and their families. There will be complimentary dancing lessons and an opportunity to “Get Your Groove On”. Agencies will be available to provide information and answer questions on transition to life after high school and healthy options. There will be give-aways, door prizes and refreshments served. STREATOR - Fire Fighter CPAT New Testing Rules
The Streator Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is announcing that all future firefighter candidates must possess a current and valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) with ladder certificate. The applying firefighter candidate must present their CPAT certificate no later than the Firefighter Candidate Orientation, March 14, 2014, and it must have been issued within 12 months of the date of the written examination, March 15, 2014.
