The IL Valley Food Pantry is low on a few items: Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, Corn, Instant Potatoes, Cereal.  We would appreciate any donations of any sort!

LASALLE COUNTY - Free ITAC Amplified Phones
Free amplified phones are available through the Illinois Telecommunications AccessCorporation program (ITAC). Qualified individuals must be legal residents of Illinois, have a doctor’s or audiologist’s signature verifying hearing loss, and have standard phone service in the residence. There are no age or income restrictions.Open House scheduled Tuesday, July 22th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Call now to schedule an appointment or request an application. So you can test and select a FREE amplified phone. Walk-ins welcome but, appointments are preferred.When you call IVCIL request that an application be sent to you and also schedule your appointment. Please bring your application and copies of the required paperwork. Please note you can come any day to see us about receiving a phone.To get your application for a FREE phone, call the Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living or (IVCIL) at (815) 224-3126. Appointments are preferred but, walk-ins welcome. IVCIL is open 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

ROCK FALLS - Summer Energy Assistance
The Tri-County Opportunities Council (TCOC) is operating a Summer Energy Assistance Program under the direction of  the Illinois Department of Commerce and Electronic Opportunity. The Summer Energy Assistance program provides a one-time payment of $150.00 directly to the electric vendor on behalf of the household, is designed to assist those households who are at risk during the hot summer months, and is set to run from July 7 through July 23 (or until funds are depleted). To receive assistance, a household must prove it meets the income guidelines; have proof the energy bills are in the applicant’s name, provide photocopies of all household members’ social security cards, medical cards or a medical certification from your physician. The gross income for a household for 30 days prior to the date of application cannot exceed the following: 1 person household, $1,459; 2 person household, $1,966; 3 person household, $2,474; 4 person household, $2,981; 5 person household, $3,489 and 6 person household, $3,996.To find the nearest location to apply,call Tammy Saenz/LIHEAP Director at 1-800-323-5434, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

OTTAWA - Blue Star Museum Program 
The Reddick Mansion is offering free admissions to all active duty military personnel and their families through Labor Day, Sept. 1 as part of the Blue Star Museums program. The Blue Star Families is a national, non-profit network of military families from all ranks and services, including guard and reserve dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering military families. This is the second year that the Reddick Mansion is participating in this program. The Mansion, built in 1858, is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites, is open for tours 6 days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at 100 W. Lafayette Street, Ottawa.

PERU - Possibilities/DBSA Meetings
Possibilities/DBSA, the local depression and bipolar support group, will meet twice in July.

PERU - Grief Recovery Group 
The Illinois Valley Community Hospital Grief Recovery Group will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, and Wednesday, July 23, in Conference Room “C” on the fourth floor of IVCH. The group allows persons who have recently suffered the loss of someone close to them to share their feelings and experiences with others who have also lost loved ones through death. The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.  For more information, call Deacon Ray Fischer, IVCH pastoral care coordinator, at (815)-780-3426.

LAMOILLE - Pink Heals Tour 
The LaMoille Ambulance/Fire Department is hosting the Pink Heals Tour on Tuesday, July 8th from 5-8 p.m. at their fire station. The Pink Heals Tour is a fire truck painted pink that travels the country rallying communities together , celebrating women.  Their labor of love is focused on the fight against cancer, and gets communities started in fundraising for its own people. 100% of its proceeds go back to the women and their families who are battling cancer and other diseases within our own communities.Please feel free to come to LaMoille the night of the event for photos, etc.  It will be a great opportunity to see!

GRAND RIDGE - Electronic Collection
There will be an electronic collection on Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Grand Ridge Grade School in Grand Ridge.

STREATOR - Les Miserables
The Community Players of Streator will be performing the hit musical, Les Miserables, during a week long run at Engle Lane Theatre in Streator from July 12-19. In anticipation of ticket demand, an additional performance has been added for Saturday evening, July 12. The remainder of the run will be Sunday, July 13 through Saturday, July 19. Evening performances begin at 7 p.m., with the Sunday, July 13 matinee starting at 2 p.m. Tickets for the general public go on sale July 7th by calling the box office at 815-672-3584. Tickets for Les Miserables are $20 each. Hours are Monday thru Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The box office is located at the Wm. C. LADD - BBQ Fundraiser
Sunday, July 13, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. there will be a BBQ in the Park fundraiser to benefit Project Success' Hall Township Food Pantry. Dinner includes pulled pork sandwich, mac & cheese, cole slaw & baked beans. The cost is $12. There will be a beer garden, music by The Craigs (no cover) & dinner also will be curbside to go. Grace United Methodist Church will host a rummage and bake sale Friday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at 1345 Chartres St. LaSalle, near Baker Lake. All proceeds will benefit Summit Learning Academy

PERU - Animinicon
Friday, July 18th, from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. for the 7th annual Animinicon, the Peru Library anime/manga club have planned a lineup of activities including a Cosplay Catwalk, Rave/Dance, Anime Underground, Dance Dance Revolution, Cosplay Q&A, Attack on Titan Flash, Pokémon Battles & Yu-Gi-Oh Duels, art displays, origami, and more! OTTAWA - Genealogy Guild Meeting
The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will meet at the Guild Library, 115 West Glover Street, Ottawa, at 1:00 p.m. on July 19th, 2014. The guest speaker will be Candice Wilmot, a native of Ottawa and member of the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild. Candice is also an officer of the Champaign County Genealogical Society and volunteers at the Champaign County Historical Archives.

STREATOR - Thatcher Glass Reunion
On Saturday, July 19 beginning at 10 a.m., a pig roast/potluck will be held at Marilla Park in Streator for former emplyees and families that worked at Thatcher/Anchor Glass prior to its closing in 1992. Table service will be provided, but guests must bring their own beverages and lawn chairs. Bring a dish to share. Hotdogs and games will be available for the kids. Reunion Tee Shirts and memorabilia will be for sale. There will be a 50/50 drawing to help offset the cost.

STANDARD - Tractor Pull
The Standard Fire Dept. Tractor Pull, Sunday, July 20th 2014, starts at 1:00 p.m. and is held at Piccinelli Park located 1 block south of Route 71 on 1st Street in Standard IL. The Pull features 4x4 trucks in addition to the tractors. Admission is $7.00 at the gate with kids under 12 free. Food, snacks and cold drinks are available for purchase. PERU - Summer Block Party
St. Valentine and St. Mary Catholic Churches of Peru are hosting a summer block party on Sunday, July 20 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm in the parking lot at St. Valentine Church, Seventh & Pulaski Streets in Peru.  Musical entertainment will be provided by the “Mariachi Campiranos” band.The fun begins at 6:00 p.m. with a variety of children’s games.  Also available for purchase will be hot dogs, authentic Mexican tacos, nachos, ice cream, sno-cones and other refreshments.  The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Raffle and 50/50 tickets will be available for purchase, and the drawings for both will take place that evening. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

STREATOR - Ice Cream Social
The Streator Grade School Band will be holding its annual Ice Cream Social and Concert at the Plumb Pavilion in the Streator City Park on Thursday, July 24th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  Ice cream sundaes will be available for $2.00 with many different toppings.  Pop and Water will also be available for $1.00.   Both the Streator Grade School Concert Band and Intermediate Band will be performing music that they have worked on during their summer band program. The concert is free and open to the public.  Please bring a lawn chair.
 
AMBOY - Lee County Fair Blood Drive
The Lee County Farm Bureau and Lee County Fair Association are hosting a blood drive on the opening day of the Lee County 4-H Fair, Thursday, July 24 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lee County 4-H Center, 1196 Franklin Rd., Amboy. The American Red Cross has an emergency need for blood and platelet donors of all types. Eligible donors with types O negative, A negative and B negative blood are encouraged to donate double red cells where available. With schools out of session and many regular donors busy or on vacation, it’s important to remember that patients don’t get a break from needing blood — the need is constant. To schedule an appointment, please call Lee County Farm Bureau at (815) 857-3531 or walk-in on Thursday, July 24. AMBOY - Lee County Fair 
The 2014 Lee Co. 4-H Fair & Jr. Show is July 24-27 at the Lee Co. 4-H Center & Fairgrounds on Route 30 just north of Amboy. The four day fair features events for everyone including a full grandstand line-up of tractor/truck pulls, mud bogs and dirt drags. The fair opens Thursday, July 24 at 12 p.m. Gate admission is $5.00 Thursday – Saturday and $2.00 on Sunday. Children age 12 and under are free. In addition to daily judging and livestock shows, free kids activities are offered Friday and Saturday at the Kids Korner at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A Kiddie Carnival begins at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Bingo at 4:30 p.m.The carnival by Oak Ridge Ranch Amusements is open Friday at 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 12 p.m. $15.00 wristbands for unlimited “rides” are offered Sunday. Saturday’s schedule also features a petting zoo, the fire safety smokehouse, and returning is Ben’s Bubble Show at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.  Sunday celebrates corn with the Corn Husking Contest and free Corn Boil. Returning Saturday to the grandstands are mud bogs and dirt drags. OTTAWA - Golf Tournament
Ottawa City Golf Tournament will be held on July 26th & 27th. Peru Ambulance presents: Peru Hot August Nights on Saturday, Aug. starts at 4 p.m. Then a cruise through town starting at 6 p.m. Trophies awarded at 8 p.m. Drive-in screening of the popular classic Grease at 8:15 p.m. Food & soda available for purchase.

MENDOTA - Grade School Reunion
The Ophir Grade School reunion for all former students (1952-1998) and their guests, staff, parents and friends of students will be held at the Mendota Moose Lodge on Saturday, August 23rd beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour and followed by a buffet dinner. The reunion also includes a Ecumenical Church Service on Sunday, August 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the Triumph Church followed by a potluck luncheon at the Triumph Community Building. Invitations have been sent to many of the former students and staff, however anyone not receiving an invitation and wanting to attend or would like additional information should call and leave a message at (815)- 895-8706. PERU - Red Cross Walk, Run, Bike
The 22nd Annual Red Cross Walk, Run, Bike will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Baker Lake in Peru. Registration begins at 12 p.m., with the event to follow at 1 p.m., and all registered participants will receive a T-shirt. This is a family oriented event that will include food, drinks, raffles, music and outdoor games. Kids can enjoy the Bike Rodeo that offers training and includes a free bike helmet (while supplies last).Money raised will support the local Red Cross’s local programs, including fire, flood, tornado and other disaster services training and response and mobile meal deliveries. Kick-Off Date is Tuesday, July 1, from 12 – 5:30 pm at the Illinois Valley Red Cross Chapter Headquarters, 1530 4th St., Peru. For more info and to register, visit arcillinois.org/walkrunbike, call (815)223-0922, or email Sarah.Stasik@redcross.org.
