Attention Medicare Beneficiaries! You may qualify for money saving benefits through the Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs. Both Programs have income and asset guidelines. OTTAWA - Blue Star Museum Program 
The Reddick Mansion is offering free admissions to all active duty military personnel and their families through Labor Day, Sept. 1, as part of the Blue Star Museums program. The Blue Star Families is a national, non-profit network of military families from all ranks and services, including guard and reserve dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering military families.

LASALLE- High School band's Annual Candy Drive
The LaSalle-Peru High School Marching Cavs have kicked off their annual candy sale and will be out in fundraising over the next couple of weeks selling candy door to door. Look for student band volunteers on the evenings of: Thursday, Sept. 4 in Oglesby, Tuesday Sept 9th in Peru and on Thursday the 11th in LaSalle. Proceeds from sales will be going towards equipment, uniforms, competitions and the Spring band trip, which will be to Disney in spring 2015. 


MENDOTA- Lulupalooza
A benefit for Luann Peasley Schmidt will be held Friday, Sept. 5 at Mendota Elks Lodge (enter through north door). Doors will open at 5 p.m. and Dinner served 6-7:30 pm. There will be a silent auction, 50/50, raffles, live entertainment and more. Tickets are $20/person – purchase in advance or at door. Mail donations to: Luann Peasley Schmidt Benefit at P.O. PERU - IVCH 5K Now a Starved Rock Circuit Race
The annual Illinois Valley Community Hospital Healthy Choices, Healthy You Fall Fitness 5K will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Washington Park in Peru. Non-competitive walkers are also invited to enter and there will be a free kids’ challenge run following the race. Entry fee is $18 if received before Sept. 1 and $22 after, including on race day, when registration will start at 7 a.m. Runners and walkers can register online at www.runrace.net or download an application form at www.starvedrockrunners.org.  Entry forms are also available at the IVCH rehab center next to the Illinois Valley YMCA and at the West Street information desk at IVCH. LADD- Chicken Dinner Fundraiser
The Ladd American Legion Auxiliary of Post 938 will hold a chicken dinner fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 11-1 p.m. at RIP'S in Ladd, donation is $7.00. All choices of chicken being: light, dark & strips, drinks extra.There will be a bake sale,  50/50 drawing and flag raffle. PRINCETON- Free Monthly Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Screening 
Perry Memorial Hospital is offering a free monthly blood pressure and blood sugar screen the second Tuesday of each month. The next screening will be Tuesday, Sept. 9. According to the American Heart Association, high blood pressure or hypertension is a disease that can have health consequences if not treated. These screens are open to the public and will be held from 7:30 - 9 a.m. in the Main Lobby at PMH. Those who want to have their blood sugar checked should fast 12 hours before the screening.


PRINCETON- Diabetes Meeting Offered Monthly
Perry Memorial Hospital wants to provide information and support to those who are dealing with diabetes. Each month, on the 2nd Tuesday, Perry has an informational meeting to provide up-to-date guidelines and realistic ways to manage the diagnosis of diabetes. There will also be time at each meeting for open discussion and sharing of ideas. The next Diabetes Meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. in the White Oak Classroom at PMH . PERU - Library sets fall programs
"Wiggles and Giggles," a progam for children ages 1 to 3, begins Thursday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. Held Thursday mornings, the program introduces the fun of music, movement, finger plays and songs to toddlers. "Story Time" for children ages 3-5 years of age begins Sept. 18, and is held every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the children's department. Children will enjoy stories, sing songs and enjoy explore and learn experiments and crafts. SUBLETTE - "Celebrating 160 Years of Sublette"
Sublettefest will be held Sept. 12 through 14 in downtown Sublette. The schedule of events includes a beer garden, music, 5K Fun Run/Walk, craft/flea market/food vendors, kid's and tegular parade, alumni softball game, OctoberFest food and music, monster fireworks show, "Pullin' in the Park" tractor and truck pull, Sublette schools reunion and more. STREATOR- Reagan Wednesday 5k
The 1st annual Reagan Wednesday 5K Walk/Run and Kids’ Fun Run Event. This event will raise money to help defray the medical costs for the Kuehn family. Reagan has been undergoing treatment for leukemia at St. Jude Hospital in Memphis during the past few years. This event will be held Sept. 13th at LongPoint City Park at 3 p.m. Following the race will be the Kids’ Fun Run and the Cody Calkins Band will begin playing at 4 p.m. then ending our day at 7:00 pm. LONG POINT - Reagan Wednesday 5K Walk/Run
The first annual Reagan Wednesday 5K Walk/Run and Kids' Fun Run Event will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Long Point City Park. MENDOTA - Color fun run set
The first annual 5K Color Me Run Aaron Olsen Memorial Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 9 a.m. Registration will be from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. Registration fee is $30 and is due by Sept. 1, to guarantee a shirt. The run will start and end at the Mendota High School baseball field, and other fun, family activities will be included in the day. PRINCETON- Grief and Loss Support Group
The Bureau Valley Volunteer Hospice Grief and Loss Support Group will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the Perry Memorial Hospital Chapel. In order to deal with the pain of loss, and work through the grief of losing someone you love, Bureau Valley Volunteer Hospice wants to support you in your journey of remembering and grieving. OTTAWA - WHL Wallace Memorial Event
The WHL Wallace Memorial Event will be held in Ottawa from Friday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 21. On Friday, there will be an open house and presentation at the Reddick Mansion featuring women in the Civil War. On Saturday, there will be sutlers, vendors, food booths open to the public, a luminary program in Washington Park, demonstations by the 17th Corps. Field Hospital, and much much more. Finally, on Sunday, there will be a battle re-enactment, early morning church service, and more! All proceeds go to the restoration and maintenance of the Dickey Cemetery, General WHL Wallace's final resting place. 


SPRING VALLEY- 3rd Annual Golf Scramble
Easter Seals of LaSalle and bureau Counties' 3rd Annual Golf Scramble will be held on Sept. 20 at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 10:30 a.m. There will be a 19th hole party at 6 p.m. at MJ's Pub & Grill. Golf and dinner is $70 per person and dinner only is $20 per person. Hole and Flag sponsorships are available for $100. The meeting for the LaSalle Genealogy Guild will be held on Sept. 20 at The Guild Library, 113 W. STREATOR - Vegas Night
Streator Elem. School Dist. 44 Activity Boosters are hosting their second annual Vegas Night on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the PNA Hall at 906 E. Livingston St. in Streator from 6 to 11 p.m.  Tickets are $10, which include food, selected beverages. There will also be games, raffle items and a silent auction. PRINCETON- Prostate Cancer Screening
Perry Memorial Hospital is offering a prostate cancer screening on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the White Oak Classroom. All men age 50 and above, that are not under the care of an urologist, should be screened. Men age 40 and above with a family history of prostate cancer, and all African-American men starting at age 40 should be screened as well. There is a $25 cost for the PSA blood test. Celebrating 60 years, AMC is holding their car show on Saturday Oct. 4 at Lake Mendota from 8-3:30 p.m. Awards will be given in a various categories with costs varying as: $20 Pre-registration, $25 Day of Show, $25 Car & Swap space, and $30 Swap only. Princeton Lions Club will be hosting the 10th annual Illinois Valley Toy Run Sunday Oct. 19 at Soldiers & Sailors Park on S. Main St. in Princeton starting at 10 a.m.The entry fee will be a $10 new and unwrapped toy for either boy or girl at any age. Take a trip downtown Chicago with Perry Memorial Hospital's 60 Plus Group and Perry Pride on Saturday Oct. 25.. The bus will leave Princeton at 8 a.m. and will return to Princeton by 8 p.m. The cost for this trip is $25 per person for deluxe motor coach transportation. PRINCETON- Health Screening Offered
Perry Memorial Hospital is offering a Health Screening on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the White Oak Classroom. A Lipid Profile test, which includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides will be offered at $25. The following other tests will also be offered: Chemistry Profile for $31, Thyroid-TSH for $23, and Hemogram for $9. All tests except the Hemogram and Thyroid-TSH require a 12 hour fasting. Pre-registration is required. Please bring physician’s name and address to the screening. Tests cannot be completed without this information. Juice and coffee will be available.
