ROCK FALLS - Summer Energy Assistance
The Tri-County Opportunities Council (TCOC) is operating a Summer Energy Assistance Program under the direction of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Electronic Opportunity. The Summer Energy Assistance program provides a one-time payment of $150 directly to the electric vendor on behalf of the household and is designed to assist those households who are at risk during the hot summer months. The progrset to run from July 7 through July 23 (or until funds are depleted). OTTAWA - Blue Star Museum Program
The Reddick Mansion is offering free admissions to all active duty military personnel and their families through Labor Day, Sept. 1, as part of the Blue Star Museums program. The Blue Star Families is a national, non-profit network of military families from all ranks and services, including guard and reserve dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering military families.
PERU - Grief Recovery Group
The Illinois Valley Community Hospital Grief Recovery Group will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, in Conference Room “C” on the fourth floor of IVCH. The group allows persons who have recently suffered the loss of someone close to them to share their feelings and experiences with others who have also lost loved ones through death. BUREAU COUNTY - Genealogy Socity Meeting
The Bureau County Genealogy Society's July 24, meeting will feature a program on the topic of "Wild Bill" Hickok who was born and raised on a farm near Troy Grove, IL, in LaSalle County. The program will be presented by Steve Dancy, a retired state policeman, who worked in the Field Museum in Chicago and also was a seasonal park ranger at the Little Big Horn Battlefield where he gave programs. The public is invited to this free program that begins at 7 p.m. at the BCGS library at 629 South Main Street in Princeton.
STREATOR - Ice Cream Social
The Streator Grade School Band will be holding its annual Ice Cream Social and Concert at the Plumb Pavilion in the Streator City Park on Thursday, July 24, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Ice cream sundaes will be available for $2 with many different toppings. Pop and water will also be available for $1. The concert is free and open to the public. Please bring a lawn chair.
AMBOY - Lee County Fair Blood Drive
The Lee County Farm Bureau and Lee County Fair Association are hosting a blood drive on the opening day of the Lee County 4-H Fair, Thursday, July 24, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Lee County 4-H Center, 1196 Franklin Rd., Amboy. All donors will be asked to pay the $5 fair admission; however, the fee will be reimbursed after donating at the blood drive. AMBOY - Lee County Fair
The 2014 Lee Co. 4-H Fair & Jr. Show is July 24 rhrough 27 at the Lee Co. 4-H Center & Fairgrounds on Route 30 just north of Amboy. The four day fair features events for everyone including a full grandstand line-up of tractor/truck pulls, mud bogs and dirt drags. SPRING VALLEY - St. Jude Archery fundraiser
Big Buck Archery in support of St. Jude Runs will host its Inaugural 3D Charity Shoot from 9 a.m.to 8 p.m. on both Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 at Time on the Water Outdoors, 515 S. Spalding St. in Spring Valley. All proceeds benefit the life-saving work of St. Jude Runs. The family friendly event will feature food, a 20 target 3D money shoot, a 100 yard 50/50 shoot, an outdoor pop up shoot, music, a vendor fair and prize drawings. STREATOR - CAR WASH
The Streator High School Marching Band will sponsor its annual Car Wash on Saturday, July 26, in conjunction with its Band Camp Program. The car wash will take place at two locations in Streator: the Kroger Parking Lot (west side by the fuel center) and the Streator Fire Station (North side). Donations will be accepted to help the Band Program with Band Parent volunteers and student band members doing the work. Everyone is invited to support the band!
OTTAWA - Golf Tournament
Ottawa City Golf Tournament will be held on July 26 and 27. The tournament is sponsored by the Ottawa Golf Association and consists of a 36 hole medal play. Saturday's tournament will take place at at Dayton Ridge and Sunday's tournamet will be held at Pine Hills. All entries must be submitted by July 19. Local and USGA Rules apply. ARLINGTON - Chicken Dinner
St. Patrick Parish's Annual Chicken Dinner is Sunday July 27. Serving is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bishop Franz Hall in Arlington. The menu is fried chicken, German potato salad or French fries, applesauce or lettuce salad, homemade pies and dessert and a beverage. Adults $7; children 10 and under $3; and preschool free. STREATOR - Elementary School Registration Dates
Streator Elementary School will be holding registration for students at the Knights of Columbus in Streator Tuesday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 30 from noon until 6 p.m. Orientation day is Tuesday, Aug. 19 and the first full day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 20. Proof of residency is required for all students. Birth certificates are required for all pre-school, kindergarten, and new or transfer students, and physicals must be turned in to the school office on or before the first day of school.

STREATOR - NATIONAL FARMER'S MARKET WEEK
Streator Downtown Farmers Market celebrates national farmers market week! In celebration, Streator Downtown Farmers Market will kick off the week with a Beekeeping 101 class on Monday Aug. 4, and a kids cooking class for 10 – 12 year olds on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Both classes will be held at Park Place in Streator at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required because limited space is available, and there will be a $7 donation collected at the door for each class. Saturday, August 9th, will be the big market day with an expanded market, Art In the Park (still accepting artists), and a petting zoo going on all day from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Y will have Zumba on the Pavilion at 9 a.m. followed by Truman’s Ridge bluegrass band at 10 a.m. For more information, or to register, call (815)-257-6807.

PERU - Doin' it for Dan Benefit
The family and friends of Dan Dempsey, a member of the Peru Ambulance Service who was injured in an accident while transporting a patient to Peoria, have organized a benefit called "Doin' it for Dan." The event will take place at the Peru Eagles Club on August 23rd from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are available at the Peru Eagles Club, Travel Connections, Peru Airport, Cowboy and Tony's, and Peru Ambulance. MENDOTA - Grade School Reunion
The Ophir Grade School reunion for all former students (1952-1998) will be held at the Mendota Moose Lodge on Saturday, Aug. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour and followed by a buffet dinner. PERU - Red Cross Walk, Run, Bike
The 22nd annual Red Cross Walk, Run, Bike will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Baker Lake in Peru. Registration begins at 12 p.m., with the event to follow at 1 p.m., and all registered participants will receive a t-shirt. This is a family oriented event that will include food, drinks, raffles, music and outdoor games. Kids can enjoy the Bike Rodeo that offers training and includes a free bike helmet (while supplies last).
