Chicago Mayor's Race
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he's "staying out of" the Chicago mayor's race. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia are facing off April 7th. Emanuel and Rauner are friends and worked together during Emanuel's time as an investment banker.

Illinois Man Killed in Skiing Accident
Authorities say a 46-year-old man died while skiing at Breckenridge, marking the second on-mountain death at the resort in four days. The Summit Daily reports Krzysztof Kostelic of Rolling Meadows, Illinois died Thursday morning while skiing an intermediate run. He was wearing a helmet.

Patterson Not Guilty in Eaglets Case
An Oglesby man who took in two baby eagles was found not guilty by jurors yesterday. The La Salle County State’s Attorney office said four charges against 63-year old Steve Patterson were acquitted. Patterson faced charges of illegal taking of a protected species and illegal taking a bird of prey. The Oglesby man found the eaglets near his home in June of 2013 after their nest was blown out of a tree. Patterson's first trial in October 2014 ended with a hung jury.

Gas Prices on the Rise
Despite gas prices rising throughout the state, they remain low throughout the area. Triple-A in Chicago says bitter cold has been hampering operations at refineries and causing difficulties. Officials say the average price of unleaded gas has been on a continuous increase throughout the month of February, including a 37 cent jump in price in Illinois. Prices for unleaded gas range from $2.05 in the La Salle-Peru area to $2.29 in Ottawa, Mendota and Spring Valley. Prices in Illinois are averaging at $2.42, while the national average is $2.35.

Legislation for Area Nuclear Plants
Illinois lawmakers are considering clean-energy legislation backed by Exelon to keep three unprofitable nuclear plants afloat. The idea would require utilities to reward producers of low-carbon power for being environmentally friendly. That would include wind, solar, water and clean-burning coal as well as nuclear.

School Bus Crash in East Moline
A school bus crashed Thursday morning in East Moline but state police say no students were seriously hurt. The bus taking students to a science fair hit ice on Interstate 80 and rolled. A hospital spokesman says one girl may have a broken leg.

Deere Profits, Stocks Lower in 2015
Deere's CEO has told stockholders to prepare for a down year. He says the Moline company is expecting the largest single-year sales drop in history following its two most profitable years ever. Sam Allen says the farm industry is taking a breather after a run of strong profits.

Charges for Truck Driver in Tollway Worker Death Last Year
A suburban Chicago judge has convicted a truck driver on several charges in connection with a crash that killed an Illinois Tollway worker and injured a state trooper. The January 2014 crash on Interstate 88 near Aurora killed maintenance worker Vincent Petrella and critically injured Trooper Douglas Balder. Renato Velasquez faces one to three years in prison or probation.
