Former Washington, DC Mayor Passes Away
He's been viewed as both hero and pariah and made a political comeback despite being caught on video smoking crack cocaine and serving time for it. Former four-term District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry died this morning at age 78. Barry was active in the civil-rights movement and built a political career as a local activist in Washington.

From Snow to Flooding in Western NY State
Parts of five counties in Western New York where several feet of lake effect snow fell last week are now contending with flood warnings. The National Weather Service says significant snowmelt is already starting, with temperatures forecast to hit 50 today and 60 tomorrow. Some rain is also in the forecast.

Washington Tornado Victim Theft
A central Illinois woman has been indicted on theft charges for making unauthorized purchases on the credit card of a Washington tornado relief volunteer. The Peoria Journal Star reports 58-year-old Marjorie Mesa of Eureka was issued the charge of a theft between $500 and $10,000 by a Tazewell County grand jury. She pleaded not guilty on November 4th.

Jobs Falling in Rock Island
More than 1,000 jobs at the Rock Island Arsenal have been lost over the past two years due to cutbacks in defense spending. Official statistics show the civilian work force has fallen from 6,743 in 2012 to 5,658 this year. The Rock Island Argus reports the job reduction shows the cutbacks, prompted by the end of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, have had a deep economic impact.

Icy Weekend Accidents
Icy roads Saturday morning were the cause of numerous slide-offs throughout La Salle County. The sheriff's office reports they responded to slide-offs in Otter Creek and Serena Townships, a three-car accident near Norway and a single-vehicle accident south of Troy Grove. No injuries were reported.
