LASALLE – A motion to address changes to the LaSalle City Code relating to pets was passed in a council meeting Monday. After a puppy was killed by a neighboring dog last month in LaSalle, Alderman James Demes is pushing for a stricter ordinance. Demes related it to a Senate Bill called, “Buddies Law” to express to the city council that a dangerous dog ordinance should be in place.
The ordinance will bump the non-registered dogs fine from $50-750 dollars to $150-750 dollars. He says the $5 dollar fine for a cat or dog license should be kept, however, he wants to see that any pets that harm a civilian or other animals be impounded.
Alderman Demes believes that this is a public concern and voiced the protection for our residents and furry friends.
