OGLESBY – The lower parking areas at Starved Rock State Park will be closed starting Friday, through the weekend due to rising waters along the Illinois River. According to Illinois Department of Natural Resources Coordinator Lisa Sons, waters are projected to reach 24.9′ as of Saturday morning which means the river will be out of its banks and into the boat ramp and main parking lot areas. Park Staff will update both the IDNR website, Starved Rock facebook page, and park office phone message in regards to when the waters have receded and parking lots have reopened. The State Park Visitor Center, Starved Rock Lodge, Campground and trails as well as the upper parking lots off of the South entrance at Route 71 remain open.
