PERU – The Peru Police Department is warning residents about a scam via email. According to Deputy Chief Bob Pyszka, an email listing a false traffic violation states you must pay the citation within 72 hours. The message states that the email was sent on behalf of your local department of motor vehicles. Police say all traffic citations written in the Illinois Valley will be issues by the officer on scene, never through an email.
