MENDOTA- In releases Saturday afternoon both sides of the District 289 contract dispute stated that the four hour session at Mendota High School failed. Teachers walked off the job on October 16th after working without a contract since August. Proposals were presented by both sides, including a one year short term deal to allow classes to resume, and a previously unmentioned four year agreement. With no new talks scheduled, it appears unlikely school would resume for students through the 8th grade on Monday. The District 289 school board stated Saturday that they want teachers to return to work with a contract. The teachers were planning a rally for community support on Sunday at a park in Mendota, with or without an agreement in place.
