Firefighter injured battling pallet fire in Mendota

MENDOTA – One firefighter was injured and multiple departments were called to the scene around 6 PM after a large pile of pallets and a truck caught fire Monday night.   Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments were called to the scene in the 200 block of North 4099th road south of the city, where flames rose at least 60 feet high at times.  Mendota Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser said one firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, but was treated and released.  Damage was estimated over $30,000, as most pallets were destroyed however no buildings were lost in the fire.   Multiple area departments were called to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
