OTTAWA – The massive fire at Chemtool Inc. in Rockton Illinois will continue into its second day, but firefighters from North Central Illinois will be helping crews with the task. The Mutal Aid Box Alarm System Division 25, which encompasses most departments in the area, will be activated Tuesday to haul water to the scene of the chemical plant fire which has been burning out of control since Monday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, local authorities have evacuated a two-mile radius around the Rockton facility.
“I am monitoring this situation closely and will make all resources available to the surrounding communities as we work to keep people safe,” said Governor JB Pritzker.
