PERU – Improvements are coming to parks in Peru. The Doug and Rorie Schweickert Charitable Trust will be donating $1 million to the city for upgrades to Washington and Veteran’s Park. The 2600-square-foot Schweickert Arena will be added to Washington Park. Improvements at Veteran’s Park including upgrades to the baseball facility and renaming it to Schweickert Stadium. It will add 600 seats, improved sight lines, box seats and an atmosphere suitable for collegiate level baseball play. No timeline was set for when construction would be completed, but they were hopeful they would be ready for use within two years.
