MARSEILLES – The Marseilles Fire Department had a busy Sunday, battling two fires they say were caused accidentally. Around 4:30 PM they were called to the 1000 block of Union Street for a playground set that was on fire. That blaze eventually spread to a fence, automobile and garage. Crews got the fire under control in under 30 minutes. A second call around 7:20 PM to the 2600 block of US Route 6 was for a controlled burn that had spread to a 30′ x 20′ structure. It took an hour to battle that fire, which fully engulfed the building. No injuries were reported in either incident.
