LASALLE – LaSalle Mayor Jeff Grove and a half dozen other concerned individuals gathered in front of the Carus Chemical Offices in Peru on Wednesday morning to seek more dialog with the company that has left many in the city waiting for answers – and insurance settlements.
“It’s been three months now” said LaSalle Mayor Jeff Grove, “the weather has been nice, we want to see adjusters out there, we want people to start getting paid for their claims and we are not seeing that right now”
The large fire that took place on January 11th of this year spread a material called Potassium Permanganate over many homes in LaSalle. The multi-alarm fire and explosions sent a large plume of smoke across the sky and left residents with purple spots on homes, cars, and yards.
Carus LLC stated in a press release in late March that the cause of the blaze was likely a damaged package of Potassium Permanganate being dragged by a forklift.
Last week the U.S. and Illinois EPA said additional testing would not be useful and unable to determine any further impacts to residents.
