MENDOTA – The Mendota Varsity Trojan Bowling team recently competed at the Beaver Vu Bowl in Beavercreek, Ohio in the 2023 High School Bowling National Tournament. They placed 43rd in the nation out of 56 teams. Upcoming sophomore Paxton Bauer averaged 204 on the first day of the singles competition, placing in the top 140 in the nation and moving on to continue in the tournament. He placed at 89th out of approximately 380 other high school bowlers.
The team learned on April 1st that they won a wildcard spot thanks to teammate Landon Bauer. He qualified as an individual for being a state qualifier during the boys high school season. While looking through the paperwork for the tournament, his coach and father Matthew Bauer found that the entire team could qualify with a wildcard spot and submitted for the team to compete. Landon insisted that his teammates come with him because it was a team effort and camaraderie that got him to the state level and that they all deserved to go.
The Trojans were the only team competing at the national level that was not a state qualifying team. The boys placed 43rd in the nation out of 56 teams.
Heading to the competition was made possible by Mendota High School who paid for the tournament fees. Travel and accommodations were taken care of by the Lions Club who sponsored the team. They also had special practice times during closed hours at the Mendota Elks.
