PERU – U.S Representative Adam Kinzinger made his way to Illinois Valleys Cancer Center in Peru for a visit and tour. Representative for Network Development Manager, Nancy Jackson, and Coordinator Karen Karczewski both cancer survivors, introduce Kinzinger to new high level technologies featured at the cancer center like stereo tactic body radiation which can reduce treatment in half for qualified patients. Dr. Gregory Gerstner, whose father began the practice, says drug costs can be up to 200 million a year. Representative Kinzinger says his take back from the tour is to continue to be informed on health care issues like treatment costs, and ways to continue keeping oncology care in rurally located places.
