LASALLE – The city of LaSalle is going to increase spending in police pensions by 21.5% according to Monday night’s City Council Meeting. Finance Director John Duncan discussed a proposed real estate tax levy increase during a public hearing, explaining that the $1,270,000 going towards police pensions, in addition to other expenses, will increase the tax levy by 15%. Duncan explained that this increase is caused by a state statute mandating that cities pay a minimum contribution to the police pensions, and the city is doing its part to maintain a three-year transition plan to meet pension payments.
