MENDOTA – A teen was seriously injured Sunday evening after crashing into a building in downtown Mendota. Around 10 p.m. Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments were called to the 700 block of Main Street after a car, which authorities say was traveling east on Washington Street, for unknown reasons continued straight, colliding with the building. The vehicle was heavily damaged and it took responders nearly 45 minutes to extricate the driver, a 17-year-old from Mendota. A life flight helicopter was called, however, due to weather conditions was unable to fly. The driver was taken to OSF St Paul then transported to Mercy Health in Rockford. The teens condition has not been updated. The incident remains under investigation.
