OTTAWA – With families gathering to ‘deck the halls’ during the holidays, the National Fire Protection Association says that also means greater risk for fire. According to NFPA, electrical distribution or lighting equipment was involved in over 40 percent of home Christmas tree fires.
Keeping a well watered Christmas tree, choosing flame resistant lights, and keeping candles away from flammable decorations can help ensure a happy and fire-safe holiday season. The association also reminds families to turn off all light strings and decorations before leaving home or going to bed.
