OGLESBY – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded the city of Oglesby with a grant to upgrade Senica Square. Economic Development and Tourist Coordinator, Becky Clinard says the city received the maximum grant amount of $400,000 to transform the square into an outdoor plaza. The North Central Illinois Council of Governments assisted the city in obtaining the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant funds from the IDNR. The concept includes a band shell, a permanent ice rink and a splash feature surrounded by picnic tables. Clinard says grant and TIF funds will be used to finance the project. The city will be matching the grant with $191,200 for a total project cost of nearly $600,000.
