STREATOR – Streator is getting closer to approving a Business Improvement District at Northpoint Plaza, but wants to get businesses approval first. The district would implement a 1 percent add-on sales tax on all retail, entertainment sales. It is the city’s hope that through the district new businesses will generate, and also assist in financing the proposed, HiltonTru hotel project. At one of the city’s final public hearings last week, Councilman Ed Brozak, recommended making sure all businesses were on board before approving the district. There are over ten businesses within the district. Attorney Herb Klein says the city doesn’t have to adopt the district by their next meeting, but suggested getting it certified with the state by their October deadline.
