Streator enforces new tobacco law with possession ordinance

STREATOR – By next week, those under 21 will no longer be able to purchase tobacco, and the city of Streator is enforcing the new law. Streator Township High School initially reached out to the city requesting an update to their tobacco ordinance to include e-cigarettes in efforts to keep vape products out of the hands of students. The city took the changes even further and raised the legal age for possession to 21 years of age to remain consistent with the state’s new purchasing law. City Attorney Cheryl Churney says fees for violating the ordinance is a minimum of $50 and maximum of $750.
