OTTAWA – The city of Ottawa and the Illinois Valley PADS have reached an agreement to construct a new facility where the existing homeless shelter is. Illinois Valley PADS agreed to purchase the property, 1120 Canal Street, from the city for $100, with the exception that they must begin construction within three years.
Aussem says officials removed the provision that the city has the right to buy it back until construction starts. Also included in the agreement, PADS will also get a new parking area that the city will build for them, adjacent to the shelter. The parking lot will be of public use, available to canal and museum goers.
