PERU – Hy-Vee in Peru will be offering free meals to government employees beginning today. Because Hy-Vee stores are independently run, Store Director Kyle Thornsbrough made the executive decision to offer free hot meals to families who can show a government ID. Thornsbrough noted that on Thursday, President Donald Trump said community businesses including grocery stores and banks should “work along” with feds during the shutdown. He says although he has not heard of any locals affected by the government shutdown so far, he still wanted to do his part. Thornsbrough says it’s not a complex effort; soup, pizza or a fried chicken dinner can make all the difference.
