Legislation moves for stand-alone ER in Streator

SPRINGFIELD — The legislation that would allow a stand-alone emergency room in Streator was passed by the Illinois Senate. Officials at Senator Sue Rezin’s office confirmed that House Bill 3213 heads to the Illinois House for consideration. The legislation follows the announcement that OSF HealthCare, who plans on purchasing Saint Mary’s Hospital, would be eliminating in-patient services at the hopsital. If House Bill 3213 is to pass, it would allow Saint Mary’s to keep it’s ER without providing in-patient services.
Rezin mentioned that the legislation, “is critical to making sure an ER stays in Streator and people’s lives and their overall health are not put in jeopardy.”
