MENDOTA – At the Tuesday night Mendota City Council meeting Police Chief Gregory Kellen announced plans to install solar powered flashing speed limit signs in front of Blackstone School along US Route 34. The lights would be programmed to flash weekdays between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM and using radar would display the speed of vehicles in the 20 mph zone. Kellen noted that the recently installed radar signs provide data wirelessly showing traffic and average speed in the area. The cost of the new signs will be around $8500, and they hope they will be installed before the start of the school year.
