Streator High School’s Principal named Illinois High School Principal of the year

STREATOR – Streator High School’s Principal was named Illinois High School Principal of the year. Awarded by the Illinois Principals’ Association, Amy Jo Mascal was given the recognition during the 13th annual IPA Starved Rock region Student Recognition Breakfast, Thursday. During the fall Principal Mascal was nominated by IPA’s Starved Rock Regional Director Aaron Rios, noting big accomplishments like the creation of the high school’s food pantry and free lunch program during the summer to youth in the community. Mascal has been loyal to Streator for 25 years, serving as a teacher for 13 years and principal for 12 years. Mascal says it’s not common for a principal to stay committed to a school for this long. She has been around long enough to see former students grow up to have children that currently attend, with her own children present at the high school.
Mascal’s goals remains the same; empowering all students to be successful beyond high school, providing them with programs that develop skill sets in the trade industry and college readiness.
