STREATOR – Trailhead Park and River Greenway Trail in Streator have new names to go by. Streator’s Park and Open Spaces Board gave approval to name Trailhead Park, Twister Hill Park and Greenway Trail, the Hop-Along-Cassidy Trail. The iconic names are uniquely rooted to Streator’s history. Trail Head Park located on west Broadway and Madison streets, was once called the Twister Hill neighborhood, having many residents who worked at Streator’s first glass plant. Before machinery invented by engineer Micheal Owens, glass was blown and twisted by hand, thus becoming Twister Hill. Hop-Along-Cassidy trail is dedicated to Streator native Clarence E. Mulford, author of the famous Hop-Along-Cassidy novels.
